Subway’s Wondersub Ditches the Bread: 35g of Protein for S$9.50

Subway Singapore’s new Wondersub is for anyone who counts protein before anything else at lunch, and it takes the bread out entirely. The six-inch build packs 35g of protein for S$9.50, and it has been on menus islandwide since 7 October 2026 for a limited time.

The launch comes with a stamp card that ends in a Subway x ASICS Limited-Edition Towel, a month of run club takeovers, and a mascot roaming the island. That’s a lot of moving parts for one sandwich, so it helps to know which bits deserve your lunch money and what the fine print says before you queue.

Two Patties, No Loaf

Subway describes the Wondersub as two roasted chicken breast patties holding together Old English-style cheese, your choice of fresh vegetables, and whichever sauce you like, which makes the chicken both the filling and the handle. The chain puts that at 35g of protein per six-inch sub, with the caveat that the figure applies to the sandwich as prepared and pictured, so changes at the counter will shift it.

The S$9.50 tag is the in-restaurant price for a six-inch, and there’s no footlong version to size up to.

The most telling comparison sits further down Subway’s own menu. The Roasted Chicken Breast sub uses one roasted patty on freshly baked bread for 28g of protein, so the Wondersub reads like that sandwich with the loaf swapped for a second patty, and a 7g gain to show for it.

35g Against the Rest

Subway is pitching the Wondersub as the headliner of a wider protein menu, and the gap to the rest of that line-up is smaller than you might guess. Per six-inch sub, the chain lists the Rotisserie Style Chicken at 31g, the Chicken Bacon Ranch at 30g, the Chicken Teriyaki at 29g, and the Roasted Chicken Breast at 28g.

That makes the bread-free option the leader by 4g. It’s a modest margin, so what the S$9.50 buys is mostly the missing loaf: a similar protein hit in a lighter-feeling package.

Protein is only one number on a label, though. CNA (Channel NewsAsia) has reported that fitness professionals trace the high-protein boom to keeping fit becoming trendy after the pandemic. The experts it spoke to cautioned that high-protein doesn’t automatically mean healthy, because a balanced diet still needs carbohydrates, fibre, and healthy fats.

Which One to Order

Go for the Wondersub if you’re cutting bread anyway or you want the highest figure on the board, because nothing else on this menu does both. It’s also the neatest answer to the post-gym question of what to eat when a full sandwich sounds like too much.

If you like your sub to arrive in bread, the Rotisserie Style Chicken is the smart pick at 31g. It sits on mozzarella with smoky Chipotle Southwest sauce, and it gives up only 4g to keep the loaf.

The Chicken Bacon Ranch is the one for days when macros matter less than mood! At 30g it stays within touching distance of the Wondersub while piling on melted Old English-style cheese, chicken bacon, and tangy ranch.

Whichever you choose, remember that Subway’s protein values assume the standard build. Extra sauce changes more than the protein line, so load up on vegetables and go easier on the add-ons if the goal is a lighter lunch.

4 Stamps to an ASICS Towel

The merch runs on an old-school paper loyalty card that you pick up at the counter. Each transaction with at least one sub, flatbread, wrap, salad, or bowl at regular menu price earns one stamp. The second stamp gets you a complimentary cookie and 16oz drink, and the fourth brings home the towel.

The catch for the kiasu (Singlish for afraid of losing out) is that stamps are counted per transaction, so buying four subs for the office in one go still earns a single stamp. Done with Wondersubs, that’s four separate visits before the towel is yours.

Delivery and online orders don’t count, and neither do items from the Breakfast and Everyday Value Meal menus. The promotion runs from 7 October to 4 November 2026 at every Subway restaurant in Singapore except the Navy MWR outlet, and towels are available while stocks last. Four lunches in four weeks is an easy ask for anyone who eats there weekly, and the free cookie at stamp two sweetens the wait.

Run Clubs and a Roaming Mascot

Subway is taking over the ASICS Running Club every Tuesday throughout October, with fitness challenges, prizes, and post-run rewards. To join, sign up for the OneASICS Programme and register for an upcoming session.

Then there’s the larger-than-life Wondersub mascot, which is making surprise appearances around Singapore all month. Spot it, post a photo or video on Instagram with #ChaseThatFlavour, and you’re in the running for Subway vouchers.

Everyone’s Selling Protein Now

Subway has plenty of company. CNA reported that Guzman y Gomez ran “double-protein” promotions in March and April 2026 with extra protein fillings at no charge, and reporting on the same trend has pointed to McDonald’s “double protein” listings and a “protein trade-up” option at Popeyes.

The towel has a precedent as well. In November 2025, 100PLUS PRO High Protein teamed up with Netflix’s Physical: Asia and released limited-edition dumbbell-shaped bottles and fitness towels. For the plant-based version of the same craving, there’s OATSIDE Protein.

The Health Promotion Board (HPB) says 79% of Singapore residents already meet their recommended protein intake. Most of us are chasing a number we’ve already hit. In 2025, 78% of 18 to 29-year-olds ate out at least once a day, and HPB has found that eating out more often goes with higher calorie, saturated fat, and sodium intake. Treat the Wondersub as a tasty option on a busy day, because the rest of the plate still counts.
