Kia Philippines, a subsidiary of ACMobility, has launched the fifth-generation Kia Sportage in the Philippines, marking the return of one of the early pioneers of the country’s compact SUV segment.
The new model combines the Sportage’s established nameplate with a turbocharged hybrid powertrain, updated technology, and Kia’s current design language for a new generation of Filipino drivers.
“The Kia Sportage has occupied a special place in the hearts of Filipino motorists as a pioneer of the compact SUV segment,” said Jay Lopez, managing director of Kia Philippines. “By moving forward with this new generation, we honor the Sportage’s rich heritage with a sustainable hybrid SUV that respects its roots while delivering the premium comfort and bold design modern drivers demand.”
A legacy of bold design, reborn
The new Kia Sportage adopts the brand’s Opposites United design philosophy, combining familiar Kia styling elements with a more contemporary exterior.
Up front, the Sportage features Kia’s Tiger Nose Grille, flanked by Star-Map Signature LED headlights and projector foglights. The front fascia flows into a streamlined profile complemented by 18-inch alloy wheels, which are standard across both variants.
At the rear, a Smart Power tailgate adds everyday convenience while maintaining the SUV’s clean exterior lines.
Turbo-hybrid performance
The fifth-generation Sportage is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid drivetrain paired with a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery. The system produces a combined output of 235PS and 367Nm of torque, providing a balance of performance and efficiency for city driving and longer trips. The hybrid setup represents a significant change from earlier generations of the Sportage, combining turbocharged power with electrified assistance.
Comfort and connectivity
Inside, the Kia Sportage features a spacious cabin centered around a 12.3-inch LCD infotainment system. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while wireless charging is also available. Premium leather seats are fitted across the range. Depending on the variant, occupants can listen through either a six-speaker audio system or an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Kia DriveWise safety technologies
Safety equipment across the Sportage lineup includes cruise control, six airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
The top-spec SX variant adds Kia DriveWise driver assistance technologies, including:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Advanced Smart Cruise Control
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Lane Keep Assist
- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist
These features are intended to support greater driver awareness and confidence in different road conditions.
