Anne Hathaway’s psychological pop thriller “Mother Mary” is set to open in Philippine cinemas on April 22, with its local trailer and poster released ahead of the film’s debut.

Hathaway (“Interstellar,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) stars as the titular global pop icon who reconnects with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm, played by Michaela Coel (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), on the eve of a comeback performance. According to the film’s synopsis, “Long-buried wounds rise to the surface” as the two reunite, exploring the personal costs of fame and past relationships.

The film is written and directed by David Lowery, whose previous works include “The Green Knight” and “A Ghost Story.” It incorporates original music by Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff and FKA Twigs, who also appears in the film.

Additional cast members include Hunter Schafer and Kaia Gerber.

Two singles from the film will be released in March: “Burial,” performed by Hathaway, and “My Mouth is Lonely For You,” performed by Twigs. A digital soundtrack featuring seven songs is scheduled for release in April on Hathaway’s music streaming platforms.

The film will be distributed in the Philippines by CreaZion Studios, which recently announced another A24 title, “Backrooms,” set for release on June 3.

RJ San Agustin, president and CEO of CreaZion Studios, said the company aims to expand access to international films in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

“Whether you are a fan of elevated genres or you simply want to have a good time watching a movie, CreaZion Studios got you covered with an exciting lineup of film offerings that can be enjoyed on the best screen and great surround sound possible, in cinemas near you,” he said.

“By bringing in the most disruptive and talked-about films to the country and Southeast Asian region, CreaZion Studios hopes to bridge human stories and experiences to this side of the world,” he added.

CreaZion Studios previously distributed films including Park Chan Wook’s “No Other Choice,” the A24 fantasy adventure “The Legend of Ochi,” and the body horror film “The Substance.”
