Dallas Cowboys superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb makes a specific roster request to the front office after a disastrous season.
In a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Lamb offered some advice to the front office. He suggested that the team should target a pass rusher this offseason.
“For us to elevate as far as defensive-wise, I think we’re missing a pass rusher to get to the QB. I felt like that’s what we were missing, but overall, as a team and as a unit, we could be better to hold up our end of the bargain,” Lamb said.
The Cowboys’ defensive side of the ball was one of the worst in franchise history. They finished near the bottom of everything major category, including 30th in total defense, last in pass defense, 31st in red zone defense, 30th in third-down defense, takeaways and yards.
That side of the ball is certainly a big need for Dallas this offseason. Lamb added that if the Cowboys focus on addressing the pass-rushing position this offseason, the rest will take care of itself.
“Have faith, man. Just have faith. I know it’s a lot to ask for and it’s been a long time,” Lamb said. “Believe in us. We’re continuing to work. I know as long as I’m here I’m going to continue to work my tail off to make sure that we’re hoisting up the trophy. And we’re going to do it very fashionably,” he said confidently.
How Much Did Losing Micah Parsons Really Hurt the Defense?
In the season, the Cowboys finished with a 7-9 record under former defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. The 55-year-old didn’t have the tools to elevate his defense, especially after losing Micha Parsons via trade.
When the season concluded, Eberflus took full responsibility and even went as far as to say the loss of Parsons didn’t change much of the defensive struggles.
“I don’t know if it changed that much,” he said. “Obviously you have an All-Pro pass rusher that wins really quick, that’s certainly going to help any defense if it’s Micah or if it’s Myles [Garrett] or whoever it might be. That impact player is always going to help to a certain degree on pass downs and other downs. Again, you can’t look back. It is what it is, and you just focus on where you are.”
Eberflus was fired on Jan. 6 after just one season with the team.
The Cowboys hired 34-year-old Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator, the youngest defensive coordinator they’ve ever had.
