Tom Holland has been back on set to carry out some reshoots for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” recently despite the movie heading to cinemas in just three months.
This will be Holland’s fourth outing as Peter Parker. The Spider-Man flick is next up on the slate for Marvel as part of their big build-up to “Avengers: Doomsday” in December.
So far, Holland’s time as the Webslinger was largely successful, with strong box-office performances and positive critical reception for all three of his films.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will see Parker dealing with the fallout of the fact no one on Earth-616 knows who he is, while the addition of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will help the story really lean into the gritty street-level crime element that sets Spidey apart from most of his Avengers colleagues.
However, fans may have been alarmed to hear that director Destin Daniel Cretton was still tinkering with the movie at this late stage in the game.
They needn’t worry, though. Holland, in a recent interview with GQ, explained why the reshoots were happening.
“I can positively say that the stuff we’re doing, we don’t need. The movie works and sings as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We’re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We’re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.” he said.
It’s unclear at this stage exactly who the big bad will be in the next Marvel Studios project, but there’s plenty of speculation over the roster of villains for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” to sink your teeth into. The likes of Scorpion, The Hand, Tarantula, and Boomerang are all seen in the trailer for the upcoming film, while Sadie Sink’s unknown role in the movie could well be a villainous one, too.
Either way, it sounds like at least one of those villains is getting some extra attention right now, while the film itself will be even funnier than originally planned.
