The New York Mets have been one of the league’s most disappointing teams this season, and they are set to be sellers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline because of it.
The Mets are currently at the bottom of the NL East standings with a 44-62 record. Due to this, they have several trade candidates to watch leading up to the deadline.
Now, one of their top trade candidates is being viewed as a prime fit for the Texas Rangers.
In a recent article for The Athletic, Dennis Lin predicted that the Mets will end up trading star reliever Luke Weaver to the Rangers by the deadline.
“He’s not Aroldis Chapman, whom the Rangers acquired on their way to the 2023 World Series, but Weaver would represent a significant upgrade for a bullpen in need,” Lin wrote.
When looking at the season Weaver is putting together for the Mets, there is no question that he would be a strong pickup for the Rangers. In 40 appearances this campaign with New York, the 6-foot-2 righty has a 2-1 record, a 1.93 ERA, and 43 strikeouts.
With the Rangers’ bullpen being shaky this season, it would make a lot of sense for them to make a big move for Weaver. He could be the perfect setup man for Rangers closer Jacob Latz to have around.
It will be intriguing to see if the Rangers end up being the team that lands Weaver this season. Yet, with the 11-year veteran in the middle of a great season, he should generate a ton of interest around the league.
