Last week, the NFL announced its decision to remove Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs from the Commissioner Exempt List — making him eligible to return in this coming Sunday’s Week 7 matchup against the division-rival Detroit Lions.

However, just because Jacobs is eligible to return doesn’t mean he’ll immediately be back on the field for the Packers.

When speaking to reporters on Monday, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said Jacobs will log a full week of practice participation as they decide on his status for Sunday’s game against the Lions.

“We feel like he’s in a pretty good spot. He’s been training, but he’s missed the exposure to football,” LaFleur said, via team reporter Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Jacobs missed the first six games of the Packers’ 2026 season following his arrest in May. He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal-damage charges in September. The NFL is still in the midst of its investigation of Jacobs under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.

Without Jacobs on the field, the Packers have one of the least effective running back rooms in the league. Through the first six weeks of the season, Green Bay ranks dead last in rushing yards per game with 59.8.

MarShawn Lloyd leads the team in rushing with just 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Sunday’s Week 7 matchup against the Lions will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET from Detroit’s Ford Field.
