At just 32 years old, Harry Kane could create an England record that would be difficult to catch.

In a 2-0 win over Panama in the final group stage game for both teams, Kane put him a goal in the 67th minute. It was his third goal of the tournament and, more importantly, the 11th goal of his World Cup career, which saw him surpass Gary Lineker for the most goals in England World Cup history.

“It is a proud one for sure,” Kane told the BBC. “I spoke before the tournament about the World Cup being the biggest competition we play as professional footballers, so to get to 11 goals is a proud feeling.

“It is always hard to take in. I just want to enjoy this moment with the team, enjoy being top of the table. I never take these moments for granted. Another good milestone to hit, and I hope it is not the last one in this tournament.”

Kane sits three goals behind Argentina star Lionel Messi, who added to his tournament-leading total with an 80th minute goal in the team’s 3-0 win over Jordan after he came off the bench. Meanwhile, while Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Ousmane Dembele and Vinicius Junior each have four.

Kane previously won the Golden Boot during the 2018 World Cup in Russia with six goals in England’s run to the semifinals.
