A miniature dachshund’s ecstatic reaction to meeting her new puppy sibling for the first time has captured the hearts of viewers online, after a clip of the moment—shared to TikTok on January 20—quickly drew more than half a million views.
Speaking to Newsweek, the dogs’ owner Holly said Florence, nearly 5, had long been nervous around other dogs, making her unexpectedly enthusiastic greeting of 5‑month‑old Jud all the more touching.
“Flo is a mommy’s girl and has always been quite nervous of new people and dogs so only has one doggy friend, her cousin Rue, also a sausage dog, so getting her a sibling means she now has a best friend all of the time,” Holly, who would prefer to keep her full identity private, said. “The post is when they first met and obviously Flo was very excited—more than any of us expected!
“Our dogs are a huge part of our life, and we love taking them everywhere with us, they are gorgeous and funny, so sharing that with the world is a joy!”
On January 20, the Holly and her husband Rich had shared the moment Florence met Jud for the first time, posting the short clip to TikTok, from their home in Yorkshire, England, under the handle @littlemissflo_masterjud.
Simply captioned “the moment we met,” the video captured a scene that resonated deeply with dog lovers everywhere. Since then, the clip has been viewed more than 658,000 times, drawing over 108,000 likes and generating a wave of amused and affectionate comments across Instagram and TikTok.
The brief but heartwarming footage shows Florence eagerly awaiting the arrival of the tiny newcomer.
Her tail wags rapidly as she darts forward, her confidence growing the moment she spots the puppy in her owner’s arms. Jud, just 5-months-old, is carried into the room before Florence jumps up to greet him, excitedly sniffing and circling him as if recognizing instantly that this little dog was now part of her world.
Despite her typically anxious nature, Florence’s enthusiasm in the video stood out to viewers just as much as it did to her owners. Where nervousness might once have held her back, here Flo seemed to understand she was meeting a permanent playmate—and perhaps a best friend.
Online, commenters praised the dogs’ sweet dynamic, sharing their own stories, photos, and even memories of their pets’ first sibling introductions. The viral attention has taken the family by surprise, but Holly says it has been overwhelmingly positive: a reminder of the universal joy that pets can bring both inside and outside the home.
“We have loved seeing all the comments and pictures people from around the world have shared of their fur babies,” she said.
