MANILA, Philippines — Japanese actor Mackenyu, best known for portraying Roronoa Zoro in the live-action series adaptation of "One Piece", is coming back to the Philippines this year.
Show promoter CNCA Media announced that the actor will be holding his "P1ece of Yu" fan meet at The Theatre at Solaire on August 29.
"Get ready to meet the man behind the legendary Zoro!," the promoter said. "From breathtaking action scenes to unforgettable charm, this is your chance to see the global star of 'One Piece' live on stage."
Mackenyu last visited the Philippines in 2023 for that year's Manila Pop Culture Convention and his "Closer to You: Fun Fan Meet."
In a previous interview with Philstar.com, the actor shared his interest in visiting Palawan and Boracay as well as feeling the support of Filipino fans for his portrayal of Zoro.
"I'm honored to be loved by the Filipino fans. I saw it, I felt the love," Mackenyu said then. "I am also happy that fans loved the live-action [series]."
The son of the late martial artist Sonny Chiba rose to fame in the "Chihayafuru" live-action trilogy and later starred in the likes of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter I", "Tokyo Ghoul S", "Rurouni Kenshin: The Final" and "Pacific Rim Uprising."
