MANILA, Philippines — Streaming platform Netflix has confirmed production is underway on a new Korean crime drama series with the working title "Paper Man."
The show will follow a man, Cha Myung-jo, who makes imitation character stickers for a living. At home, he is overshadowed by his highly competent wife, Ko Hye-seok, a judge.
"However, when Myung-jo comes to create a counterfeit bill so flawless it can't be distinguished from the real thing, he steps into an unexpected world he never imagined," goes a logline for the series.
Netflix teased that the project would explore the "value of money, human desire, and the boundaries between what is 'real' and 'fake' as defined by society."
Jo Jung-suk will play Myung-jo, while Claudia Kim will portray Hye-seok. Completing the main cast is Park Hae-soo as Oh Seung-eop, First Deputy Director of the Korea Mint's Anti-Counterfeiting Division.
"Remember" and "Karma," (which starred Hae-soo) director Lee Il-hyung, will helm the project. Lee's "A Violent Prosecutor" was the second highest-grossing Korean movie of 2016 behind "Train to Busan."
Jung-suk started out as a stage actor before making his screen debut in "What's Up" and "Architecture 101," which led to roles in "The King 2 Hearts," "Two Cops," "Hospital Playlist," and "Pilot," the latter role bagged him the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Actor.

Kim, whose real name is Kim Soo-hyun, is known internationally for starring in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald."
She appeared in K-dramas "Monster," "Chimera" (with Hae-soo), "The Atypical Family," and "Gyeongseong Creature," while her sole Korean movie to date is 2023's "A Normal Family."
Hae-soo also started in theater before transitioning to the screen through "God of War" and eventually a breakthrough lead role in "Prison Playbook."
He followed that up with "Persona" and "By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture," the latter making him then at 38 years old the eldest winner of the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best New Actor.
Netflix then tapped Hae-soo to star in "Squid Game" — earning him Supporting Actor (Drama) nomination at the Emmy Awards — and then "Yaksha: Ruthless Operations," "Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area," and "Narco-Saints."
The actor was last seen in the mystery thriller shows "The Price of Confession" and "The Scarecrow."
