1. Which Southeast Asian country will rank first in the world for the Security & Safety pillar in 2026?

Exactly

According to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Travel and Tourism Development Index 2026 (TTDI), released on September 25th, Singapore ranked first globally in the Security & Safety pillar, scoring 6.87 out of 7 points. Following Singapore were Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Kuwait, Bahrain, and others.

The TTDI assesses the conditions and policies that support the sustainable and resilient development of the tourism and travel industry. Security and safety is one of the 17 pillars of the index, belonging to the "Facilitating Environment" group. Therefore, this ranking reflects Singapore's position within the TTDI's security and safety criterion alone, and does not mean the country ranks first in all tourism-related criteria.

According to Gallup, 98% of adults in Singapore say they feel safe walking alone at night in their area. This figure, based on a 2024 survey, was published in the Global Safety Report 2025. This is the highest percentage in the world according to Gallup's survey. This marks the 12th time Singapore has topped Gallup's ranking for perceived safety when walking alone at night.

Gallup measures perceptions of safety through questions about walking alone at night, along with questions about trust in local police and experiences of theft or assault. The 2024 results are based on surveys of more than 145,000 adults in 144 countries and territories.

This also shows that Singapore performed outstandingly on another safety metric, although Gallup's methodology differs from how the WEF constructed the Security & Safety pillar in its TTDI.

Exactly

Mexico ranks 110th out of 110 economies assessed by the WEF in the Security & Safety pillar, with a score of 3.24/7. Following Mexico are Mali, Colombia, Ecuador, Nigeria, Cameroon, Israel, South Africa, Jamaica, and Pakistan in the group of 10 lowest-ranked economies in this pillar.

The WEF does not use this pillar to conclude whether a country is safe or dangerous under all circumstances. This is a category of the Tourism Development Index (TTDI) aimed at assessing conditions related to the development of tourism and travel. Therefore, the ranking should be understood within the context of the WEF's assessment methodology.
