Unlocking resources, forming ecosystems

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in 2026, Vietnam will rank 43rd out of 139 economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII), an increase of one place compared to 2025 and 16 places compared to 2016. Specifically, the innovation output index will rank 35th, up two places from the previous year, while the innovation input index will rank 54th. Vietnam ranks second among lower-middle-income economies in GII, after India; and third in the ASEAN region, after Singapore and Malaysia.

Notably, since 2013, Vietnam has been among the top 7 middle-income countries with the fastest-improving GII ranking. This result demonstrates the positive progress in Vietnam's innovation capacity. This is an important foundation for further leveraging scientific and technological resources, promoting innovation as a driving force for improving productivity and the quality of growth.
