The campaign officially launched on July 7th, aiming to honor architectural and cultural works built from 1801 to the present day. Beyond highlighting design and engineering value, the selection process also evaluates works that have made outstanding contributions to promoting economic development, attracting investment, creating jobs, and enhancing the attractiveness of tourist destinations.

Unlike the traditional view that focuses only on famous historical sites from ancient times, WTTC believes that each era creates its own unique and worthy achievements. According to WTTC President and CEO, Gloria Guevara, the magnificence is not limited to structures from thousands of years ago but continues to be created by humans in the modern era.

Among the notable landmarks mentioned by WTTC are the Eiffel Tower in Paris ( France ), the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (Spain), and the Grand Egyptian Museum. According to the organization, a "contemporary wonder" should not only be architecturally impressive but also contribute to job creation, boost business activity, enhance community vitality, and elevate the international standing of the destination.

Through this campaign, WTTC also aims to showcase many lesser-known but potentially iconic tourist destinations of the future. The council is calling on travelers worldwide to nominate locations that they believe best represent the spirit of contemporary tourism.

According to the plan, people can submit nominations on WTTC's online platform for one year. The list of the 70 most nominated locations will be announced on January 7, 2027, and then go through further rounds of voting to select the 30 finalists. The list of the 7 contemporary wonders of the world will be announced on July 7, 2027.
