From Tom Brady to Snoop Dogg, American billionaires, CEOs, and celebrities are pouring money into English football, according to Fortune. Currently, American investors hold controlling ownership of more than half of the 20 Premier League clubs.
Recently, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also joined this trend.
The consortium 1892 Holdings – led by Bezos, British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, and billionaire Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin – has just acquired a 38% stake in Liverpool FC. This move marks a major turning point, bringing leading names from the global business and technology world to Anfield Stadium.
FSG stated that what attracted them was not the financial need but the composition of the consortium led by Bhatia. For almost a year, the management had been researching and believed that the deal could open up further opportunities for the club in business, technology and global investment, particularly in key markets such as India and Asia.
